Two Players
The table is a practice table. Every shot is yours, the turn never passes, and a ball that drops is just gone. Two people at one table want to know whose shot it is and who is winning. Also, the cue is still a line, and nothing shows how far you've pulled it back.
A house rule
A common house rule goes like this. Pot a ball and you shoot again. Miss, and it's the other player's turn. Pot the cue ball, a scratch, and you lose the turn even if something else went down. Every ball you pot is yours. When the table is clear, whoever potted the most wins, and buys the next round.
