A Star Too Heavy for Light

Steal Speed From the Moon left us a gentle planet: a ball that reaches it lands. Pack the same kind of mass into a small enough ball and there is a radius that nothing climbs back out of.

Escape speed, set to the speed of light

A ball at a distance r from a mass M needs a speed of √(2GM/r) to get away for good. The game sets G = 1, as in Mass Pulls. Set that speed equal to the speed of light, c, and solve for r:

escape speed at r v = √(2M / r)
set v = c r = 2M / c² from inside, nothing gets out
mass 450, r = 0.99 v = √(900 / 0.99) = 30.15

A hole of mass 450 with its horizon at 0.99 makes 30.15 units a second this game's speed of light. The scene's softening of 0.3 weakens the pull close in, so the escape speed at 0.99 comes out at 29.50. Nothing else is held to it: a ball's speed cap is 60.
